(Cary, NC – March 11, 2016) – LORD Sensing – a global leader in developing embedded sensing systems – has introduced the MicroStrain Torque-Link™ wireless torque monitoring node. The Torque-Link’s hardened two-piece collar installs easily around rotating shafts, with embedded electronics transmitting raw torsional strain data for accurate measures.
The Torque-Link is built to fit shafts ranging from two to six inches in diameter, though larger shafts can be accommodated with a custom version. Likewise, though the Torque-Link is optimized for shaft rotation between 1000 and 2500 rpm, it has been successfully tested at up to 8000 rpm.
“We are very excited to bring this technology to market,” said Jeff Allred, LORD Sensing – MicroStrain lead engineer. “Using a bolted, hardened collar makes a huge difference in both performance and longevity. This technology is also infinitely easier to install than a typical slip ring. No longer will you have to completely remove the axel or shaft to install a torque monitor. The Torque-Link easily installs directly around the shaft, and that saves a considerable amount of time and effort.”
The LORD Sensing – MicroStrain Torque-Link is ideal for a wide range of applications, including:
· test and measurement for flight tests, off-highway vehicles, and rotating machinery
· condition based maintenance of pump shafts, drivetrains, and rotary feed mechanisms
· torsional vibration/driveline resonance analysis
· feedback for drive/fly-by-wire systems
The Torque-Link is compatible with all LORD Sensing wireless nodes and gateways. It has been tested to meet DO-160 standards for temperature and vibration, and the unique hard-collar design safely protects the strain gauge, wiring, and electronics from the elements.
