(Cary, NC – May 20, 2013) -- LORD Corporation— a leader in the management of vibration, noise and motion control— has announced that Rich Ketcham, Senior Electrical Engineer, LORD MicroStrain Sensing Systems, will present a paper at the American Helicopter Society (AHS) International 69th Annual Forum & Technology Display.
The presentation will be held Thursday, May 23 at 9 a.m., at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, Ariz. The topic is entitled “Integration of a Wireless Sensor Data Aggregation System and HUMS.” Ketcham co-authored the paper with Jonathan Herbst, Software Engineer at LORD Corporation and Nam Phan of the U.S. Navy NAVAIR.
The presentation will discuss the measurement scope of data sets collected by a health and usage management system (HUMS) and the limitations due to the ease, practicality, and expense of sensor installation. In recent years, wireless sensor networks have demonstrated efficacy in structural health monitoring of rotorcraft but have yet to be integrated with on-board health and usage management systems. Current LORD MicroStrain® wireless sensor network (WSN) deployments on rotorcraft run as autonomous parallel data collection systems irrespective of the on-board health and usage management system. Attendees will learn the benefits of integrating a WSN into HUMS.
In his role at LORD MicroStrain Sensing Systems, Ketcham works on the development of web-connected sensing systems and optimization of embedded firmware for integrated processing and data logging. Other contributions to the field include radio frequency propagation characterization for wireless sensor networks aboard helicopters. He received his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Vermont.
