AppNote: Environmental Monitoring Solutions

Wireless Node-Based Environmental Monitoring System In Harsh Climatic Conditions

Wireless environmental monitoring from LORD MicroStrain: eliminates reliance on hardwired options; is easy to install and integrate; uses unobtrusive, lightweight hardware; samples data continuously at high rate; and is designed for harsh climates.

LORD MicroStrain's ENV-Link™-Mini-LXRS® is an environmental monitoring node that acquires data regarding temperature, soil moisture, leaf wetness, barometric pressure, and more. It accommodates one relative humidity/temperature sensor plus three 0-5V dc sensors and allows remote monitoring and cloud-based data storage.

New Product: WSDA®-1500-LXRS® Wireless Gateway

The LORD MicroStrain® WSDA® -1500 Gateway

The WSDA-1500-LXRS is LORD MicroStrain's newest wireless sensor data aggregator. It enables simultaneous, high-speed sensing and data aggregation from scalable sensor networks. It has the same footprint as the WSDA-1000-LXRS, with the addition of several new features to improve functionality.

Highlights include:

* Ability to push data to a J1939 CAN bus

* 4GB of data storage memory (WSDA-1000 had 2GB)

* 13x faster download rate than WSDA-1000

* 1 GHz processor (WSDA-1000's was 600 MHz)

White Paper: Energy Harvesting Helicopter Rotor HUM System Development

Helicopter rotor health and usage monitoring

Our latest white paper is a joint project with our friends at AgustaWestland and addresses the issue of developing a helicopter on-rotor HUM system powered by energy harvesting. AW's Daniel Wells and Tiziano Frattini co-authored the paper with LORD MicroStrain's Sensing Technology Manager David Churchill and Engineering Manager Steve DiStasi:

"Helicopter transmission health and usage monitoring is mature and operating on many helicopters worldwide. Attention is now being given to improving the monitoring of rotor systems, in order to 1) further enhance safety by the early detection of incipient failures, and 2) reduce the maintenance burden by minimising or ultimately replacing high-frequency on-aircraft rotor component inspections.

"To realise these aims, rotor monitoring needs to go beyond the traditional track and balance management based on airframe vibration measurement and one approach is more localised sensing on rotor components...
